Food Friday: Healthy Banana Muffins

Today I am going to share with you guys my Healthy Banana Muffins recipe, this muffin is whole-wheat, sugar-free, contains only good fats, and is ridiculously moist.
Here are the items you need:

6 Over-Ripe Bananas
1 Egg
1/3 cup Melted Earth Balance
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1 1/2 cups Whole Wheat Flour

Preheat oven to 350 F.

You want to start by mashing your bananas, you can do this with a blender/food processor, or you can use a potato masher.

Then add in your 1 egg and whisk the banana/egg mixture.

Now add in your 1/3 cup melted Earth Balance, and whisk again.

Add in your 1 teaspoon of Vanilla extract.

Followed by your 1 teaspoon Baking Soda.

Then add in your 1 1/2 cups whole-wheat flower in 1/2 sections, whisking the mixture in-between 1/2 cups.

line/grease your muffin tin and fill.

Place in the oven for 20 minutes, after 20 minutes check to see if done, if not place back in the oven for 5-10 minutes.

Place on rack to cool and enjoy.

If you would like to see the complete video for this it is below.

Fun Friday: Temple Vlog Fail

Don and I decided to go to Valley of the Temples and I thought I would take you guys along so you would get to see a bit of Hawaii. Unfortunately this turned into a total vlogging fail, as when I got home I realized every time I held the camera I had my thumb covering the microphone, which meant you see me talking but you can't actually hear me :( At first I wasn't going to upload it but decided I would anyways because it was so beautiful there and it is about an hours drive from my house and I don't have any plans to return in the near future.
Valley of the Temples is a place where all religions can come together in one spot and worship in their houses, the one we went to is a Buddhist temple that is an exact replica of the Byodo-in Temple in Japan that is 980 years old. It was built in the 1950's to honor the Japanese Immigrants that had come to Hawaii.
It was such a peaceful place, even though there were black swans, and peacocks every where it was still real tranquil and relaxing. I loved walking around the grounds and see the animals mixed in with this truly amazing work of art.
I went into the temple and lit the candle and incense and was absolutely amazed at how large the Buddha in the temple was. I also rung the gong before going into the temple to ward of evil spirits.
I hope you guys enjoy the blog, I will do better next time I promise and also plan to do these a bit more regular and show you a bit of the Hawaii life.

Thoughts Thursday: Maybelline Liquid/Pen Liners

In my DrugStore haul last week I purchased a Maybelline Stiletto Liquid Liner in the color Brownish Black and a Maybelline EyeStudio Pen Liner in Black, today I will be reviewing both of those items for you....

The color of the liquid liner is more of a gold/brown color, which looks really nice and has the tiniest shimmer effect. The tip is soft but firm at the same time, as well as the handle is long enough for you to have good control over the liner. This is also very fast drying liner so you don't have to worry about it moving after you place it.

The pen liner has a 0.4 mm tip!!! So you can get a really close line along your lashes as well as get into the inner corner with no problem. I have used this pen everyday for a week and it doesn't seem to be drying out yet, like some of my others have. I wish that the cap to this was designed to fit on the bottom of then pen like a typical marker, because I always lose them, as well as I wish the tip was a bit firmer (like the Collections liquid liner), because it is so small you really have to use the side of the pen for filling in your winged liner which is a tiny but of a challenge.

All in all I love both of these, if you have never used a liquid liner start with the pen first, after you become confidant with that moving on to the liquid will not be so scary <3

Workout Wednesday: Focus T25 Total Body Workout

I was asked what BeachBody System I am using, its Focus T25 I also joined this group

Today was the first day that I had the Total Body Workout in the T25 series, I found it to be much more challenging as well as painful. This workout requires a lot of lunges, squats, and planking shoulder taps, I of course am doing the modified version. After about ten minutes into this workout I had to stop as it was far too much for my knees, but I was glad I tried it and even though originally I had said I would never do this one again I think I will try it again just with my yoga mat at hand, (the DVD said we didn't need one), and when it is slightly cooler.
You can watch me struggle through this in the video below....

Meal Monday: Eating Healthy On A Budget Dairy

Keeping with the Eating Healthy on a Budget Series, today we are talking about Dairy. I don’t consume a lot of dairy because it contains a lot of fat and calories, and that is an area that I don’t really want to spend my daily calories.

I instead use Almond Breeze Original Unsweetened Milk, I find this to be the perfect compromise away from Cow Milk. If you prefer a different milk substitute you want to make sure you read the label and make sure there is no added sugar or high fructose corn syrup.

The next dairy item is cheese, I don’t really eat a lot of cheese because again it is very high in fat and calories, but when I do use cheese I like extra-sharp cheddar because I don’t need much of it to get that cheese flavor. I also like to use a really good Parmesan because you need very little of this to add a nice salty-nutty flavor to steamed vegetables.

In your dairy section you will also see yogurt, I would recommend never buying any yogurt except plain unsweetened greek yogurt and the reason for that is yogurt is sold to us as a “healthy” food, but in reality it is filled with fat, calories, sugar, and sometimes high fructose corn syrup. The only thing I use yogurt in is when I make a kale/spinach smoothie as it makes it a bit creamier.

You will also see butter, I would suggest switching to Earth Balance, which is comprised of several healthy oils that they haves whipped together to create a butter, or just use good old fashioned butter, stay away from any of the butter substitutes as a recent study has found they may cause more damage than the regular butter, but remember everything in moderation.

Finally you will see eggs, I love eggs they are a great source of protein as well as you can do so much with them, try to go for free range eggs, and then boil some of them peel them, ut them in a container and keep them in the fridge for mid-day snacks.

Fun Friday: DrugStore Haul

I hit up the drugstore again and caused a bit more damage to the ol' bank account, but it was a ll worth it :)

This is the CVS and Vaseline Spray Moisturizer that I used in yesterdays Thoughts Thursday post.

When I first saw this EOS Shaving Cream I wasn't sure why it was different but after opening it (on camera) I realized its a shaving lotion, not a cream, similar to using conditioner.

I could not wait to get this home, its Maybelline's new Master Studio Highlighting Bronzer, it would be used to get that sun kissed look, not for contouring.

I'm about to whiten my teeth again so I decided to try this toothpaste, I have heard amazing things about it and its supposed to be the only toothpaste that really does whiten your teeth.

I was going to get the NYX Butters, but when I saw these two colors I had to have them right then and there. The colors I got are Sash and Indian Pink

At first I thought this was the worlds fattest lipstick, but its actually a cheek stain from Maybelline's new Master line.

This is Maybelline's Stiletto liquid liner, and I got it in brownish black just to change up my constant black eyeliner.

Another brown eyeliner, but in my defense I don't have any NYX liners and I don't have any brown liners so it makes sense to purchase 2 in one trip...right?

This is Maybelline's new liner pen from their EyeStudio line (that the gel liner line), it has a 0.4mm tip and can help you create a very thin line as well as perfect your winged liner skills.

Thoughts Thursday: Spray Moisturizers Vaseline/CVS

Todays Thoughts Thursday post is on the many spray moisturizers coming out in recent months. I have purchased 2 sets of Vaseline, (Aloe & Oat) and 2 sets of CVS brand, (Aloe & Oat), and have come to the conclusion that the CVS brand is actually better.
The Vaseline cost $9.97 and the CVS was $7.00. (Both are much cheaper on the CVS website.)
The Vaseline has 6.8 fl oz and the CVS has 8.9 floz.
The Vaseline feels almost like a spray sunscreen, that kind of sticky/greasy feel, where as the CVS brand feels really soft, smooth, and moisturizing.
The Vaseline brand sprays in a very concentrated pray so you will have to rub it in, as well as makes an annoying noise. The CVS brand has a nice wide spray so it mists lightly over your body as well as has the traditional aerosol noise.
In the end the CVS is better in all things and they have actually matched each kind Vaseline made, Oat, Cocoa, Shea, and Aloe so you are able to pick and choose your favorites.

You can watch my full review video below, as well as hear the annoying noise lol....

Workout Wednesday: Focus T25 Speed 1.0

I know that weeks Workout Wednesday was also the Focus T25 Speed 1.0, but I am following BeachBody's calendar on this so I can't help that, but I have looked ahead to next weeks and there is a new one so we have that to look foreword to. I will say however that I feel like I did much better this week in the speed 1.0 than last week. I think I felt more confident having already completed one, as well as because I am doing the modified version it's hard to keep track of the modifier because the camera tends to move away from her a lot.
Here is the full 26 minute workout...

Tutorial Tuesday: My Current Gym Makeup Routine

Recently a subscriber asked me to show you guys what makeup I wear to the gym, I usually try to avoid wearing makeup at the gym because your skin needs that time to breathe, but when I have things to do right after the gym with no time to do my makeup I have a quick go to look that doesn't clog your pores and doesn't have a heavy "painted on" look to it.

I always start off with a BB Cream as foundation can clog the pores, as well as cake up around your eyes and nose, So I use the Garnier BB Cream in Light/Medium and apply with a Real Techniques Buffing Brush.
Then Skipping powder (it turns into a total mess when sweating), I jump straight into the brows, I'm using the Sleek Au Natural Palette and using the shade Bark and a MAC 266 brush I fill in my brows, but I don't do much shaping as I want to look as natural as possible.
Then using the same sleek palette I use the color Nugget and go all over my lid up to the brow bone using a Real Techniques base shadow brush.
Then using the same brush I use the color Cappuccino and apply to the lid up into the crease.
Then using the Maybelline Liquid Line Stileto in Brownish Black and line my upper lash line, really tightly against the lashes.
Then going back into that Bark color with a Sephora smudging brush, I go underneath my waterline against my bottom lashes and slightly smudge up in the outer corners.
I then use the Almay Dial up One Coat Mascara in black (no longer available) I apply lightly to my upper lashes.
And now I'm ready to go workout.

Meal Monday: Eating Healthy On A Budget {Meat}

Today I am continuing with the Eating Healthy On A Budget Series and talk about MEAT!!! Meat is the most expensive thing on your grocery list, but there are a few ways around the cost.
1. Invest in a Costco/Sam's Club Membership.
These membership stores are able to get amazing deals on meat because they buy in such large quantities and then sell to you in large quantities too. At my local Costco I can buy 10lbs of ground beef for $30.00 thats $3.00 a pound, where as at my local Safeway I can purchase 1 pound of ground beef for $7-8.00 thats a huge difference in price as well as I end up with a stocked freezer. Another thing I like to buy at Costco is their Whole Chickens, they come 2 per pack for $12.00 and they are MASSIVE, unlike the over priced tiny Safeway chickens and then you have left over chicken for sandwiches, which by the way is a lot healthier than lunch meat.

2. Look into PORK.
Pork is called "the other white meat" because it contains less fat than beef, and price wise is low like chicken. With pork there are a lot of cuts to choose from like a pork roast, porch chop, pork loin, and of course bacon. I would advise staying away from bacon as its not very healthy and it can also be expensive. If you buy a cut of pork that has fat on it I would recommend removing the fat before cooking, add a cup or two of chicken stock to your pan and wrap the pan tightly in tinfoil to have a moist cut of meat.

3. Look into fish.
Fish is usually considered expensive but you can purchase cheaper fish such as Trout or Catfish whole, or purchase a small piece of a more expensive fish like Salmon or Ahi and split them amongst the people in your home. The more expensive cuts of fish can also be from the type of fish that tends to be rich like Salmon so it works out well to have a smaller portion.

4. Find a local butcher.
Going to your local butcher is a great way to save on meat, and they usually are getting their meat locally so you are supporting local business and you know where you meat comes from as well as the products used on your meat.

I hope this post helps you guys and you can see my full Meat video below.......
